Simetierre
Does gene banking hurt my pet?
No. The procedure is done under local or general anesthesia by your own veterinarian in his/her office. When your pet awakens, it will have two small stitched areas, one in the abdomen and one in the mouth. The mouth stitches will reabsorb on their own, while the abdominal stitches will have to be removed when the incision has healed. For most pets, the worst part about having stitches removed is simply being in the veterinarian's office.
How much does it cost to gene bank my pet's DNA at GSC?
We offer three types of service: PetBank Express, for live, healthy animals ($295 plus shipping); PetBank Ensure for live animals OR terminally ill animals ($895 plus shipping), and PetBank Ensure Plus, for terminal or recently deceased animals ($1395 plus shipping). For more information, see the Services section. Genetic Savings & Clone's gene banking services do not include the cost of a biopsy procedure to obtain the DNA, which is a procedure that is performed (and billed) by your veterinarian, using resources supplied by GSC. The fee for this service is between you and your veterinarian, but generally runs $100-$500, depending on the condition of the animal.
How long after death can you obtain viable DNA?
After numerous experiments and actual post-mortem jobs, we've determined that we must receive a pet's tissue within five days of death, regardless of how the body has been preserved. For more information see the Pet Emergencies page.
How long can DNA last when stored using your methods?
A century at least. Cellular DNA stored in liquid nitrogen has been re-grown after decades.
When pet cloning is possible, how much will it cost?
After Missy is cloned, our goal is to offer dog and cat cloning services in the low five figures, and to drop the price further as we increase our efficiency. Cloning will be available on a first-come, first-served basis to GSC gene banking customers.
Will a pet clone have the same behavior as the genetic donor?
It’s well established that genes influence two key components of behavior, intelligence, and temperament, which is why golden retrievers tend to behave differently than pit bulls. Of course a clone doesn't inherit the memories and experiences of its genetic donor; it's a unique individual, like an identical twin born later. But if a clone is raised in a similar way as its genetic donor, you’ll probably see behavioral similarities.
Is it true that clones age prematurely?
The theory that clones are born "old" or age rapidly has been proven to be false. This myth was reinforced by speculation that the early death of Dolly the cloned sheep was due to premature aging. But Dolly developed a common respiratory infection, and there's no evidence that being a clone had anything to do with it. The age of the genetic donor (the animal whose DNA is used to produce a clone) does not affect the age or aging process of the clone. Although clones do have a higher incidence of health problems than animals produced by conventional reproduction, we're addressing this problem through the use of a significantly more advanced cloning technique, combined with assessment of each embryo's quality prior to its transfer to a surrogate mother.
Do I have to be a gene banking customer of GSC in order to have you clone my pet?
Yes, because the DNA must be verified by our scientists and stored in our own dewars. However, you can transfer your animal's DNA to GSC from other gene banks. We charge a $500 reprocessing fee, plus shipping, for transfers to our bank. Considering that the full cost of gene banking (less shipping) at GSC is deductible from the future cost of cloning at GSC (something other gene banks don't offer), you're better off banking with us in the first place.
Is the transfer charge deductible from the future cost of cloning my pet at GSC?
Yes, less the cost of shipping.
Can you refer me to a client who has already gene banked a pet with GSC?
Our client list is confidential, but in addition to reading testimonials from real clients, you can also communicate with clients about various issues in the Discussion Forum section of our website.
Is it true that right after cloning an Evil spirit can take possession of my pet's body?
Well, there is no scientific evidence that can rule out this possibility today. So as to ensure the happiest return of your pet in your family, GSC will provide you with a free "just in case kit" with a fully illustrated exorcism procedure for kids and grown-ups.
